Fading Away In World Rankings,
fails to make top 1600
Webometrics, a world tertiary education ranking institutions organization in its January 2012 reports revealed that only three Nigerian Universities managed to be in the first 100 list of universities in Africa and none in the first 1600 in the world.
University of Benin (UNIBEN) is at the 1,639th position, 18th in Africa and first in Nigeria, University of Agriculture Abeokuta(UNAAB) followed in the 2,266th position and absent on the first 100 list in Africa. The premier university, the University of Ibadan was the 2,515 in the world and 53rd in Africa. University of Nigeria Nsukka is 3,228th, Obafemi Awolowo University is 3,263rd and University of Lagos is 3,486th.
Ahmadu Bello University(ABU), University of Ilorin(UNILORIN) 4,302nd, University of Jos(UNIJOS) 5,681st, Auchi Polytechnic 6,254th, National Open University of Nigeria 6,576th came seventh, eight, nineth, tenth, eleventh respectively on the African list.
Auchi Polytechnic which is the 24th in Africa is the best polythecnic in Nigeria, retaining its position
The first five in Africa were the Mauritius Institute of Education, Mauritius (387th in the world), University of Cape Town, South Africa (532th), Rhodes University, South Africa (573rd), Cairo University, Egypt (687th) and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa (819th).
Havard University, Massaxhusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Michigan and University of California, Berkeley were the 1st, 2nd, 3rd,4th and 5th respectively in the world.
The country that invest the most in education have the most educated people. United States, Japan, Canada, Norway,Finland, United Kingdom, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Israel are countries with the most educated people.
The standard of Nigerian Universities has really fallen. We therefore call on the Federal Governance and those in governance to re-access the education sector. To raise the standard of education in Nigeria to international standards as education is the best legacy...
