KIDNAPPING OF NYSC MEMBERS
17th February 2012
...NYSC Members Advised not to put on their Uniforms while traveling
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on Thursday at the end of their compulsory one year service to the nation, have been advised not to put on their NYSC uniform while travelling back home. This advice was given at the parade (passing-out) of more than 3,000 batch A corps members that served in Ogun State.
Mrs Abosede Aderibigbe who decried the spate of kidnapping in the country submitted that corps members had also become the target of the kidnappers. She urged NYSC members not to roam the streets for white-collar jobs instead they should engage themselves in jobs that would make them employers of labour.
Aderibigbe while delivering the message of the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier- General Nnamdi Okororie- Affair charged NYSC members on the need to be security conscious while returning to their respective homes. Please do not travel in the night. If you are travelling, as soon as you get your certificate, please go or wait till tomorrow morning due to security reasons
After collecting your discharge certificate, I will advise you to pull your uniform and put it in your bags and dress in mufti,€ she said.
Nowadays NYSC has become something else, unlike those days, if you are a youth corper you are well respected.
