THE VICE CHANCELLOR OOU, MEETNG WITH SUG.

The Vice Chancellor OOU, meeting with SUG.

Here is the breakdown at the meeting, with the Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Saburi Adejinmi A, and the Student Union Government, OOU Vanguard Media was present at the Meeting.

*VC complained with students not being able to meet up with school fees
* The VC spoke about the movement of students from the mini campus to the permanent site
* The VC talked about providing the students with a Viewing Centre (DSTV) for the comfort of the students
*The VC  spoke on the SUG’s intentions of buying a bus
*The VC also talked about curriculum which encompasses SIWES and that anybody going for 6 months Industrial Training (IT) is supposed to be paid, he further talked about the IT and Teaching Practice(TP) which the SUG leaders has been looking out for, moreover the payment of students to go for IT has been cancelled by the VC (Students should not pay for IT fee) but the issue of the TP is been looked into and the VC said that an affordable fee for the TP  would be fixed if the need be.
The VC was of the opinion that government do not pay the full services of lecturers nevertheless the university must run and it will definitely be run by someone which is either the government which is not responding or the students who is not also responding with school fees, which is really necessary and also no lecturer is meant to collect money for such programmes.
*The VC also spoke about nobody being allowed to pay before defending project.
*The VC spoke extensively about verification which must be undergone by students and staff, and students need to be verified before getting to the final year also because some students go about with “to whom it may concern”, the issue of part 4 students not having matric number is quite strange, giving out “to whom it may concern” is not the issue but people are ignorant of the process because any matriculating student has his or her details at the NUC, and JAMB in which can be verified at any time, moreover VC spoke about the school having 20,000 students but confirmed that it was only 8000 students that paid for school fees, he equally spoke on various students who parade themselves as students whereas they are not and that is why he stressed that, that is one of the reason why the verification process is needed.
*Many problems has been caused because everybody believes everything is possible due to bribery and others, which is a norm that can no more thrive in the school due to the inculcation of highly disciplined principles.
*The VC talked about the buses he sees around campus which is “SUG ASSISTED bus” he ask the SUG about it,  the SUG President Comrade Omojola Ayokunle aka OMOJAY replied that the buses were brought into the system to assist the students with cheaper rates and to demonopolize and make the sector more competitive but the Dean of the students affairs talked about it that the SUG members and the entire students should be cautious because there are some evil perpetrators whom forge and impersonate saying that he met one bus somewhere outside the school premises marked with the number 004 which is meant for a particular person in the university, so he warned of vigilance
*The VC spoke about the School Anthem, (the school needs an Anthem), he said the Students should submit their anthems and that the best student would be given rewarded. (Submission of Anthem is opened to every student of Olabisi Onabanjo University)
*The VC spoke about the 2012 graduating students and the efforts the school is putting into their final processes and their results
*The VC was looking at 6000 to be admitted into the school university but has reduced it to 5000
*The VC acknowledged that whatever we are doing everybody is watching so we should be cautious of what we are doing and should act as better representations of the school’s image.
*The VC also talked about building hostels, labs which he stated that its going to take a lot of pain, but when we ask ourselves, is there pain without gain? Our response will be NO! Then we will therefore know that OOU is for real moving forward….. Forward ever backward never.
Lastly the Vice Chancellor wished  the school management & SUG officials humbly led by Comrade OMOJAY a successful tenure in office and to the Media for keeping OOUITES informed by incorporating OOU Media house the agenda, the VC also wishes the entire OOUITES a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year…
OOU is Going Higher, We all need to bring back the Legacy of Our Great institution.
